Colonel Donald T. Kellett, U.S.Army (Retired) died in 1991 after a successful career during which he became well known for his military marches. One of them is THE BIG RED ONE, another SPADER PARADER. In 1943 Major General Terry Allen pinned a Silver Star on then Captain Kellett, 26th Infantry, for gallantry at the Battle of Kasserine Pass, February 1943. Wounded in the attack on Hill 609 at El Guettar the following month, Captain Kellett wrote THE BIG RED ONE while hospitalized at Constantine, Algeria. He dedicated his composition to Major General Terry Allen, the division's commander in North Africa and Sicily, 1942-1943. We don't know when Kellett wrote SPADER PARADER, but we would like to hear from any veteran who knows more about Col. Kellett's service and about his music.
